So, in the summer of 2001 after many years of thought and preparation the 1st sculpture colony was held on the hilltop and 7 sculptures were shown at an opening ceremony. The colony was called ‘PROSTOR 2001’ translated to ‘OPEN SPACE’, a celebration of an expanse of meadow now shaping into the beginnings of a sculpture park on a hilltop (Breg) in the upland area close to the Serbian/Bosnian border 3 hours' drive to the west of Belgrade.

The mood was at first sombre coming only 2 years after the bombardment of the nation by NATO forces, but the isolation and quiescence of the hills soon ensured that this was a location for artistic expression not one in which the participants would dwell on the past.

3 years later based on the success and learning experience of the 1st colony ‘PROSTOR 2004’ again saw 5 artists spend 10 days together creating a further 5 sculptures. Shortly after the open day celebrations we were all saddened by the loss of Zoran Matic, without whom the colonies would never have realised our dreams & ideas.

‘PROSTOR 2007’ will be a memorial to Zoran’s and our ideals, that artists, students and those with an interest in sculpture should be able to see the results of all our achievements.
